To design a customized, gamified experience for Walmart's order-picking associates that complements existing processes, boosting job satisfaction and fostering a healthy competitive spirit through an engaging and enjoyable approach.
During my time at Walmart, I contributed to an innovative project called OmniQuest, integrated with Walmart’s Curbside Pickup software. Designed to gamify the order-picking process, OmniQuest introduced playful competition among employees, transforming routine tasks into engaging challenges. This approach not only boosted morale but also significantly enhanced productivity. In its first week at pilot stores, OmniQuest increased productivity by 17.5%, demonstrating the power of gamification in improving efficiency and motivating employees through friendly competition.
The OmniQuest home screen tracks your progress, displaying key metrics like "Pick Rate" and "Wait Time." It motivates by offering a clear view of your achievements and standing in the competitive environment.
The Trophy Case screen serves as a comprehensive dashboard, capturing your performance from successes to challenges, offering a complete view to motivate continuous improvement.
The leaderboard for Pick Rate and Wait Time compares your performance to both associate partners and regional standings. This broader view enhances competition and motivation by allowing you to gauge your efficiency and speed against a wider group.
OmniQuest expanded beyond the TC-70s and mobile devices. In phase 2, plans included installing touch-sensitive screens in break rooms as interactive scoreboards. These screens displayed real-time performance comparisons and enabled regional competition, increasing engagement across locations.
The interactive scoreboard was designed to be strategically placed in the break rooms of participating stores, creating a central hub for employees to engage with the competition during their breaks.
My work on the OmniQuest project at Walmart transformed the order-picking process through gamification, resulting in a 17.5% productivity boost in pilot stores and increased employee engagement. This innovative approach made tasks more enjoyable while fostering a competitive yet collaborative atmosphere, demonstrating my dedication to enhancing both efficiency and employee satisfaction.
